Also this year the Pro Loco of San Salvatore di Fitalia renews its commitment to promoting an event which, together with the local companies, is helping the quality and genuineness of fitalesi local products, to be known and appreciated not only in Sicily.

For some time the oak, cork and chestnut plants are left to thrive in those lands difficult to grow, and they compete to dominate them. But the fitalese farmer willingly leaves space to the Chestnut plant at the expense of the other trees. Hence the idea to pay homage to the fruit “prince of the mountain”; so another gastronomic event  was born in San Salvatore di Fitalia: Chestnut Festival.

Inside the event there will be organized guided tours in the historic centre of San Salvatore di Fitalia, at the Sicilian Museum of religious traditions, and nature excursions by walking or on horseback (by reservation).

You cannot miss the guided tour to the olive oil mill, where you will see  the old  system of production, having also the opportunity to taste the oil oil just got from the grindstone.

Between music and dancing the chestnut is proposed in many culinary versions, from simple and tasty roasted chestnuts to the exquisite pasta with chestnuts, and many other delicacies like sweets made with chestnuts and hazelnuts. Joviality of the people, good food and fine wine are the premises for a fun evening with songs and dances,  a conviviality that has no equal, where the stranger is the most welcome guest.castagne
