From July 20 to 26 the seaside hamlet of Marzamemi, on the East coast of Sicily near Syracuse, will host the fifteenth edition of the Border Festival Film.
Alongside the film critic Sebastiano Jesus, the founder and artistic director Nello Correale pointed out once again the international character of the event: it will be a meeting point for cultures, movie making styles and ideas from all over the world. And from all over the world come to the authors of an independent movie featured in this edition, attentive as usual to geographical borders, yes, but also to artistic and cultural ones.
Here the word “border” is full of unexplored meanings and ways to enact it: borders of the soul and the desire, the need to espand them or to cross them. Thus cinema becomes an instrument of dialogue between different peoples; the ancient Sicilian town of Marzamemi becomes a place of union between Europe, Asia and Africa.
The Festival is an international competition where you will have to attend to film premieres, retrospectives and a contest dedicated to short films and documentaries presented by the authors. You will find as side events also interesting exhibitions and workshops. After the success of last year, it has been also confirmed the “Isle of taste” to celebrate the food with a series of six films from this year’s Berlin Film Festival.
